Lent Week 4: GIRL TURN ON THE LIGHTS!

Matthew 5: 14-16 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who’s in heaven.

Jesus tells us in each of these verses Matt 5: 14-16, Luke 11: 33, and Luke 8: 16, The light belongs on a stand, for all to see. I feel like Jesus is yelling at me, "Girl turn on the lights!" "For all to see", that’s where I come up a little short. My servant heart is always ready and willing to help my neighbor. However, how many times do I talk myself out of doing a good deed for fear of judgment. I should be in pursuit of the delight of the Lord, and not focused on the "judgy" world around me. I wonder how many good deeds go unfulfilled because of our insecurities? It is through our loving Father that we are able and willing to be charitable. So why am I holding back the light that he has perfectly lit for me—fear, self reliance, or doubt? Or maybe one to many humility prayers! For it is God that has blessed me with these gifts to shine. When we use our God-given talents, others around us gain the courage to use theirs also. Our lives are linked through the radiant light of one another. We are perfectly created in the image of Jesus. That light shining through us in our good deeds is Jesus glorified. Therefore, each of our talents can be used to complete God‘s mission by glorifying his son. Have you unscrewed your bulb out of fear? That would sadly be a big YEP for me! In all God’s glory, I’ve learned everything is on HIS time and through HIS will. Even when we are in sweats with no lipstick on, Jesus is the shinning light through us! We can walk humbly, but proudly and give all glory to God for your good works! Friend let all of that self reliance go! Put your lamp on a stand with 100 watt bulb and LET IT SHINE!

Let's pray..."Jesus help us to shine brightly through your love, and for the light in our eyes to radiate your goodness for all to see."
